Where tamariki rise through the arts.
Making the arts accessible to young tamariki.
At Maranga, we believe every child deserves to experience the magic of the arts — no matter where they come from, where they live, or what resources their kura has.
Maranga (meaning ‘to rise’ in te reo Māori) is a nationwide movement breaking down the barriers that stop tamariki from stepping into the world of theatre. Through funding transport, connecting schools with performances, and offering curriculum-aligned resources, we’re opening doors to creativity, confidence, and new possibilities.

The Arts in Aotearoa
1
One in three kids has never been to a live theatre performance.
Arts experiences remain out of reach for thousands of tamariki in Aotearoa.
2
Socioeconomic barriers keep many young people locked out of the arts.
Where you live or what school you attend still limits access to creativity.
3
Arts-engaged students show stronger wellbeing across every area of life.
From mental health to friendships, the arts uplift young people in meaningful ways.
4
Arts education boosts academic progress by up to three extra months.
Students exposed to the arts improve in reading, writing, and maths — not just creativity.
5
Creative learning increases attendance, confidence, and school engagement.
Drama and theatre help students feel like they belong — especially those struggling to connect.
